The project
Nocturne is designed for the hours after nine. Instead of one big room we made a sequence — bar, lounge, private dining — each a little darker and more enclosed than the last.
The bar runs the length of the room under a coffered ceiling with a warm cove light. Booths are low-backed on the bar side for energy and high-backed along the wall for privacy.
Every surface that can be touched is soft or warm: leather, oak, velvet, bronze. Hard surfaces are kept to the floor and the bar top, which keeps the acoustics gentle when the room is full.
The private dining room is lit almost entirely by a suspended cluster of hand-blown glass globes and candles, so faces are lit and the room around them falls away.
